Linkedin

Ever since I joined Linkedin I’ve been trying to work out what it is good for apart from aimlessly collecting connections in order to be able to boast ever greater numbers of contacts.

Today I discovered a new feature there that allows me to embed a feed from my blog and to upload PowerPoint slide shows. So I syndicated my blog and uploaded a PPT file of the exhibition I have running currently in NDS. Enjoy.

I hung my pictures this morning in the exhibition area at work. A total of nine pictures that you can see here.

The title of the exhibition is “Living water – מים חיים” which as you can guess shows my water paintings except for “Nahal Banias” that is hanging in my office.

The pictures included are:

Friday is Yom Yerushalayim – the day (by the Jewish lunar calendar) that Jerusalem was re-taken / conquered / liberated / occupied in the 1967 “Six Day War“. In Jerusalem they are having all the celebrations tomorrow because Friday is a short day. However the real day is Friday.

In the circles I mix in it is considered a (rather) minor religious festival although in Israeli society at large it generally unnoticed outside of Jerusalem and the religious zionist community.

In honor of this (and for want of better inspiration), my next picture will be a Jerusalem one. Yesterday I bought the canvas (100×40 cm)  and this evening I hop to make a start, even if only to gesso the canvas ready for work.

The picture is a view of the Old City of Jerusalem taken from the lookout in the Citadel also known as Migdal David (The Tower of David). BTW the tower was most definitely not built by anyone called David. This is just a misnomer that has stuck and it has become a Jewish religious symbol of Jerusalem despite it being a mainly muslim and the tower itself is the minaret of a mosque.

This is the picture. I know it look kind of weird and what are all those “Demo” notices on it? The picture is a mosaic of pictures from my phone – I took a whole 360° panorama there. I then perspective-corrected it using some free demo-wear add in the Paint Shop Pro and this is the result.

I still have to think about exactly how I’m going to do this painting as there is a lot of detail and I am not feeling so photo-realistic right now. It will get some kind of impressionistic treatment. Keep tuned.

2009_05150003-250wLast week I took the new Meron Path picture for framing and I just got it back now from the framer. Looks really good. I have hung it in my living room so I can show it off.

As always I was a bit worried about how the painting would look framed. After the effort and attention to get the picture exactly right, I am always worried that the frame will spoil or change the balance of the picture and throw it off. This has happened to me before and I have seen other pictures as well where their frame destroys them.

Anyway, I got it right this time. To be more precise the owner of the framing store did. I went to a new framer this time – Artli in the Ezor Ta’asiah of Beit Shemesh. He is an art photographer and sells massive prints of his amazing pictures togther with religious kitsch (kind of Thomas Kinkade meets Lubavitch or the Baba Sali, which sells well in this part of the world). He also does framing.

He immediately picked this frame. I of course had to try every frame in the shop before deciding that his choice was correct. And here it is.

Two updates on the painting front.

Firstly I have finished the pond with reflections of reeds picture. I need to give it a name. I’ll post a photo in the enxt couple of days.

Secondly, the company where I work has an exhibition area where employees can display art and I am putting on a mini-exhibition there starting next week. These exhibitions are open ended kind of affairs. There are not many takers, so the paintings can stay up for a couple of months even until someone will want to put up something new.

I am going to display a selection of my water paintings under the title of “מים חיים – Living Water”. I’ll post some photos of the display when it goes up as well.

I was going through my pictures in storage last night and I came upon this. Followers of this blog (are there any) will recognize it as this piece that I was working on back last summer.

This is a bad image that I photographed this morning with my cell phone.

Anyway, back then I was getting rather frustrated with this picture as I couldn’t get it to go where I wanted. Now coming back to it, it looks fine to me and I may even declare it officially finished. Well, that was easy to complete…
